SIGNED Giovanni Battista Niccolini - 1819 - Nabucco Tragedia Italian Opera For Sale

A relatively early work by the well-known poet and playwright Giovanni Battista Niccolini. This is the \"Edizione Corretta Dall\' Autore\" (\"Edition Corrected by the Author\"). There is a pencil inscription opposite the title page by a previous owner (hard to make out, but seems to specify the date, location, and price of purchase). There is also a pencil inscription on the FFEP reading \"Del Professor Niccolini\" (\"By Professor Niccolini\" in pencil). This is a somewhat odd way to sign one\'s name, but the \"Niccolini\" has unique features that appear to closely match those of his signature on correspondence that can be found online (curled low start, flat high end to N, separated I, C, C, connected O-L-I, connected N-I). Based on this comparison, I believe this is Niccolini\'s signature, but I\'m not an expert and I can\'t guarantee authenticity. Good-. Softcover binding holding up fairly well. Photo of spine makes it look like the book is splitting apart but that\'s not the case. Inscriptions on endpapers and opposite title page. Page edges worn. Minor to moderate foxing throughout.
