Mind Over Matter: The Lubavitcher Rebbe on Science, Technology and Medicine
The Lubavitcher Rebbe, Rabbi Menachem Mendel Schneerson
SHAMIR and F.R.E.E. Publishing House
2007
Revised North American edition
Like new hardcover copy with a firm, square binding and clean, crisp pages. The glossy pictorial boards show only faint handling wear, with light rubbing visible under direct light and minor wear at the spine ends. Warmly inscribed and signed by editor and translator Dr. Arnie Gotfryd on the front free endpaper to his friend Zohar, with additional lines in Hebrew and a reference to Gotfryd’s website. No other writing or markings observed.
This substantial volume gathers the Lubavitcher Rebbe’s teachings on science, technology, medicine, education, cosmology, evolution, energy, aviation, media, psychology, and the relationship between Torah and the natural world. The original Hebrew edition was compiled by Rabbi Joseph Ginsburg and Professor Herman Branover, while this English edition was edited and translated by Dr. Arnie Gotfryd. Bound in illustrated glossy boards and printed on bright white paper, the book contains more than 400 pages of selections, commentary, source references, a glossary, and appendices.
The book occupies an unusual place at the intersection of modern science and Chabad thought, preserving the Rebbe’s responses to many of the intellectual and technological questions of the twentieth century. Signed presentation copies from Gotfryd are considerably less common than standard copies, and the personal inscription gives this example a meaningful association beyond its already substantial content. The publisher describes the work as drawing from the Rebbe’s discourses, talks, correspondence, and the extensive Likkutei Sichot series.
