Kurt Versen was a household name in interior lighting during the forties.
The company advertised heavily in the retail home improvement magazines
such as HOUSE & GARDEN and the Decorator trade magazines like INTERIORS.
Always an upscale brand the Versen name was associated with clean, modern
design. A Kurt Versen lamp was stylish, had clean, modern lines and was built
to last. The war shifted Kurt Versen\'s production and after the war, personal
lighting was mostly replaced with industrial lighting sales.Versen lamps designed for the home during this period, now,
are extremely scarce. Most of the ads from this period featured desk lamps,
which already had the dual sales appeal of home and workplace.This lamp style predates a similar Lightolier articulating arm design that
was extremely similar. This Versen lamp is much more indestructible
and the swivels and shade are in much better shape than comparable
Lightoliers made a year later with fiberglass shades.It is also one of the most versatile of lamps.
A push button switch on the base can turns the shade on/off.
