Shilen Alternut Stainless Match Barrel for Remington Model 700 chambered in .223 Ackley Improved with a .252” neck and 1-7” Twist. Finished length is 26”. The barrel is Shilen’s #A9 extra heavy contour which measures .940” at the muzzle. Features a beautiful glass peened finish on both the barrel and included nut as well as a 11° crown on the muzzle. This barrel was extremely well taken care of and has seen close to 500 rounds with a conservative life expectancy around 5,000 rounds. This particular barrel was installed in a chassis while exploring F-Class calibers. It is extremely accurate as shown in some random targets I found from a couple years ago. In capable hands I think it is easily capable of .25 MOA accuracy.
The Ackley Improved cartridge is super easy to load for and once the brass is fire-formed I mainly neck sized and almost zero case trimming unlike the standard 223. Case capacity is increased slightly but the shoulder angle makes it much more efficient. I mainly shot heavy higher BC bullets but I’m sure it would do well with lighter bullets as well. This is a good chance for someone who already shoots the 223 AI to own a proven accurate barrel or just someone looking to dip into the cartridge. With the heavy contour, there is almost zero recoil in a chassis style rifle.
