Near Fine. A beautifully preserved volume in red and black textured leatherette, with bright gilt spine lettering and all edges gilt. The binding is sound and square, with only minor signs of handling. The covers remain exceptionally clean, the corners are sharp, and the gilt page edges retain their luster. The interior is clean and well preserved, with light age toning. An orange ribbon marker is present.
A substantial, single-volume collection featuring more than 100 illustrations, including numerous full-page plates in color and black and white, as well as illustrations within the text. The volume opens with a portrait of Tennyson and includes a biographical introduction and explanatory notes by Arthur Waugh. Its rounded corners, textured leatherette binding, gilt edges, and ribbon marker give it an attractive presentation.
Alfred, Lord Tennyson was Poet Laureate of Great Britain for much of the Victorian era and remains one of the period’s defining literary voices. His poetry ranges from the Arthurian narratives of Idylls of the King to the elegiac In Memoriam A.H.H., alongside such celebrated works as The Lady of Shalott, Ulysses, and The Charge of the Light Brigade. This generously illustrated edition pairs his verse with period artwork and Arthur Waugh’s biographical and literary commentary.
