Tim West Handmade Large Freehand Plateau Briar Estate Pipe – USA
A beautiful handmade American estate pipe by Tim West, one of the longstanding names in American artisan pipemaking. West began making pipes in the late 1960s and became a full-time pipe maker in the 1970s, becoming particularly known for substantial handmade pipes and expressive freehand designs.
This impressive example features a sculptural large freehand shape with an angular bowl, broad smooth surfaces, and attractive natural plateau at both the rim and shank end.
The warm reddish-brown finish highlights excellent straight and flame grain throughout the briar. The pipe is complemented by a distinctive black, gray, and pearl-swirled stem, providing an attractive contrast with the natural character of the briar.
The shank is clearly stamped:

This is a previously smoked estate pipe that has been carefully cleaned and polished. The chamber shows normal evidence of prior use with remaining carbon. The stem has also been cleaned and polished and shows light signs of previous use. The natural plateau rim and shank are in very good condition.
Despite its substantial appearance, the pipe weighs only approximately 1.74 oz. (49.4 g). It also features a generous 0.95-inch chamber with approximately 1.80 inches of depth, making this an appealing larger-format Tim approx. 6.00 in.
