DESCRIPTION
Framed Japanese woodblock print by Utagawa Hiroshige II (1826–1869) from his celebrated 1862 landscape series “Sixty-Eight Views of the Various Provinces” — Shokoku Rokuju-Hakkei.
Published during the late Edo period, the series presents scenic landscapes from throughout Japan. Hiroshige II created the series several years after the death of his teacher, Utagawa Hiroshige I, whose artistic name he had inherited.
The series was published in 1862 by Tsutaya Kichizo (Koeido) in the vertical chuban format. Individual designs feature delicately rendered landscapes, architecture, waterways, mountains, coastal scenes, travelers, and other views of Japan.
This example has been professionally presented with a clean mat and frame.
The visible print measures approximately 6.25\" x 8.5\", with the overall framed piece measuring approximately 12\" x 14.25\".
The image remains attractive with only very minimal visible foxing. The frame has minor cosmetic marks from storage and transport.
IMPORTANT ATTRIBUTION NOTE:
The print remains sealed within its framing and has not been removed for inspection. The reverse of the paper, complete margins, and any concealed markings are therefore not visible. The listing identifies the work based upon the visible image, inscriptions, and its association with Hiroshige II\'s documented 1862 series. No separate authentication or conservation examination has been performed.
