Hand blown from clear glass with its original Victorian Bronzed Cast Iron Collar, this antique Apothecary Hanging Show Globe usually would have been filled with colored water and placed in the window of a circa-1900 Pharmacy. This globe however used the much rarer technique of staining the inside of the globe. When these globes were placed is storefront windows, the water in the globes could get hot and crack the globes. To avoid this, some pharmacy’s elected to stain the globe. This globe has a 2” -3” crack in it (see photos) and may be the reason this globe was stained. I have had the globe for nearly 30 years now and the crack seems to be sturdy. Either way, it’s a rare example!!!
The bronze coating on the cast iron is uniformly worn off to give it a silver color. I don’t know if that was done on purpose or not but it’s beautiful nonetheless.
