Etta Endito is Navajo and was born in Crownpoint New Mexico into the Tangle Water Clan. She learned her trade from her mother, assisting her after school and growing her expert skills. By the time she was 15 she was smithing her own work, and at 18 she was a full fledged and talented silversmith. She was one of 8 Native American artists chosen to be featured in the Indian Craft Shop in the Department of Interior in Washington DC. In 1980 she married her husband Randy and they began working together, both making their own work as well, and started a whole family of talented silversmiths.
It’s easy to see at a glance why Etta’s work is so renowned, and this incredible necklace and pendant is a classic example of her high quality craftsmanship. Her stone selection and polishing is superior and surrounded by a sleek notched design that has a narrow Shadowbox surrounding the inset bezel, with a thin loop incorporated into the back attached to a wide bail. It is perfectly balanced, and makes the exquisite Royston Turquoise stone the centerpiece, almost as if it was nestled into a pillow. It is signed on the back with her unique double E logo, and hanging from a 17” necklace that alternates sterling tubes and balls on an extra thick cable. Even care is given to the hook and eye closure, attached with a doubled jump ring for extra safety.
A piece this special doesn’t come along every day - not only a gorgeous example of one of Etta’s fine pendants, but paired with the necklace it is truly a rare and spectacular find!
