2. Cup Depicting Kenrokuen Garden — Ishikawa Prefectural History Museum

* Artist: Shimizu Seikan.
* Period: Meiji.
* Dimensions: height 7 cm; diameter 6.6 cm.

* The interior contains 31 lines of minute calligraphy.
The museum states that Shimizu Seikan was born in Kanazawa in 1835 and died in 1921. He contributed to the overseas export of Kutani ware through Yokohama and Kobe and established a shop in Kanazawa in 1876.
This cup is particularly useful for comparison with your object: its abbreviated signature ends with the same characters, 九谷 清閑, found in your mark.
3. Large Kutani Seikan Bowl — MAK, Vienna

David Battie was a respected specialist in Asian art and a longstanding expert on the BBC Antiques Roadshow. However, Sworders describes the object only as “signed Kutani Seikan.” The record therefore confirms the existence of a similarly signed piece but provides weaker evidence of authorship by Shimizu Seikan than the museum records.
