This item is a vintage 1920s – 1940s brass alcohol blow torch, manufactured by the Lenk Manufacturing Company (most likely their iconic No. 30 or No. 350 Champion model) out of Newton Lower Falls, Massachusetts.
Instead of requiring manual pumping like larger industrial gasoline blowtorches, these clever pocket-sized brass devices utilized an internal wick saturated with denatured alcohol. Heating the upper curved tube vaporized the alcohol, generating a fine, concentrated needle-point flame. These were a staple tool for plumbers, dental technicians, typewriter repairmen, and early electricians doing precision soldering.
