Published by the USO Greater Boston Soldiers and Sailors Committee, this scarce 28-page booklet was handed out to soldiers, sailors, and marines arriving in Boston on leave during the height of the war. It serves as an incredible historical time capsule, showing exactly what life was like for service members navigating the historic city of Boston in 1943.The striking red, white, and blue front cover features a wonderful patriotic illustration of a bulldog wearing a sailor cap, set against a winged U.S. shield. Inside, the guide is packed with invaluable details for the wartime traveler, including a centerfold map of the harbor and downtown area, transit info, local historic landmarks, and a list of free services offered at local service clubs—ranging from canteens and dances to free voice recordings and overnight lodging. It even highlights free skiing instruction and equipment at Blue Hill for active-duty troops!As fragile paper ephemera, very few of these pocket-sized guides survived the war without being read to pieces or discarded, making this complete, clean specimen highly collectible.Measurements: Approximately 6 inches by 4.5 inches.Condition Report: Excellent vintage condition.
