Vintage 1950s American Optical Calobar C23-48 Cat Eye Herringbone Sunglasses For Sale

Beautiful vintage 1950s American Optical Calobar cat-eye sunglasses featuring the distinctive black-and-white herringbone pattern. These are marked C23-48 on the inside temple and have the classic ivory/yellow-toned interior temple detail associated with this style.

The glasses have a wonderful mid-century look and are a particularly fun piece for a vintage eyewear collector or anyone who appreciates authentic 1950s accessories.

Condition:

Very good vintage condition overall. The exterior of the frames presents beautifully, with solid, functional hinges.

The green glass lenses have no scratches and are in very nice condition for their age.

There is some age-related discoloration and accumulated wear on the inside of the frame and temple areas. The Calobar marking on the inside has some fading/wear, consistent with age and use.

Vintage Case:

A vintage leather optical case is included. The case is from the same family collection and appears to be associated with Dietz -McLean Optical in San Antonio, Texas. I cannot confirm that it was the original case sold with this particular pair, so it is being included as a vintage accessory rather than represented as the original case.

These have been part of my family's collection and are being offered as a vintage collectible. They are being sold for their vintage/collectible appeal and are not represented as new or prescription eyewear.
