Format is a 6 x 6 cm square exposure on 120 roll film. The shutter is a Gauthier prontor 2 leaf shutter offering speeds from 1 to 1/1200 second .Here we have a flexaret III body with a Prontor II shutter . It is a common point of confusion because Meopta heavily mixed and match shutter mechanisms, such as the prontor two or prontor S across different body generations . Meopta swapped the traditional knob for a winding lever on the specific generation. The liver was designed to allow the photographer to advance the film with a quick single stroke of the thumb or index finger without ever taking their eye off. The waist level will be finder the tip of the lever even folds flat against the body for streamlined storage. So for those curious about why this has a winding lover, you can be assured this camera is not a “Frankencamera” or a mistake, it was actually built that way by the factory it is always a common misconception that camera models only used one specific shutter, but this company, heavily mixed and match shutters during production, the meopta flexaret III that you see here for sale was officially produced with three different factory shutter options, depending on what parts were available at the time. Some ask why did Meopta put a prontor II on a flexaret III BODY , due to post war supply shortages . The flexaret III was manufactured right after World War II around 1948 to 1951 during this era supply chains across Europe were highly unstable Meopta use whatever reliable high-quality shutters they could secure from Alfred gauthier( the German shutter’s
manufacturer) so if you have a camera with the lever advance handle on the side (Flexaret III BODY) and a Prontor II shutter on the front , you have a completely stock, historically, accurate factory variation .
