Offered is a striking vintage African Kota (Bakota) style reliquary guardian figure constructed from hand-carved wood clad in individually formed copper and brass sheet metal. The figure stands just under 21 inches tall (excluding the display base).
The piece features hand-worked repoussé metal decoration, individually applied copper/brass tacks of varying sizes, and a beautifully aged patina throughout. The reverse shows hand-carved tool marks, while the metal cladding has developed natural oxidation and shrinkage consistent with age. The central face appears to be clad in brass, contrasting with the surrounding copper elements.
This figure is mounted on a later black display stand for presentation.
Offered exactly as found. I have not attempted to clean, polish, or restore the wood or metal in order to preserve the original patina and character.
