Rare original 1940s–1950s Alan Ladd fan scrapbook/archive assembled by a devoted fan named Dorothy. The collection contains a large assortment of period Alan Ladd photographs, publicity images, movie stills, magazine/newspaper clippings and other ephemera, along with an especially interesting typed personal letter bearing an Alan Ladd signature and additional photographs bearing apparent signatures.
The letter is addressed personally to “Dear Dorothy” and discusses Ladd’s then-current production:
“I am very busy on the new picture ‘After Midnight’ which has been in production for some weeks. The story is a good one, and Wanda Hendrix is playing opposite me.”
“After Midnight” was the working title of the Paramount production later released as Captain Carey, U.S.A. (1950), making the letter a particularly interesting piece of Golden Age Hollywood history.
The letter also states:
“I have signed the page from your autograph book, and it is enclosed with the picture you requested.”
Included with the collection are period photographic prints, including photographs that appear to bear handwritten Alan Ladd signatures. The scrapbook also contains numerous images of Ladd from his film career and personal/publicity appearances.

The scrapbook itself is heavily age-worn, with edge wear, tears, toning, brittle areas, old adhesive and deterioration consistent with its age. Some photographs and clippings are attached to album pages while others overlap or may be loose. Please examine all photographs carefully for condition.
IMPORTANT AUTHENTICATION NOTE:
The signatures have not been professionally authenticated by PSA/DNA, JSA or Beckett and are therefore being sold as unverified signatures/autographs. No guarantee of autograph authenticity is made. Buyers should make their own determination based on the detailed photographs provided.
I have intentionally left the collection intact rather than removing photographs or signatures from the original scrapbook, preserving the association between the signed correspondence, photographs and the original collector.
This is a fascinating survivor from the Golden Age of Hollywood and would make an excellent addition to an Alan Ladd, Shane, classic Hollywood, Paramount Pictures, movie memorabilia, autograph or vintage photography collection.
Condition: Vintage/pre-owned with substantial scrapbook wear and age-related deterioration. Individual photographs range in condition. Letter has fold lines, toning and age wear but remains highly legible. See all photos as they are an important part of the description.
