Antique French opera glasses / theater binoculars signed Chevalier Paris and Made in France on the eyepiece rims.
Classic late-19th / early-20th century Paris theater glasses: gilt brass tubes, black embossed barrels with raised portrait/cameo and scrollwork, gilt beaded rings, black eyecups, and a center focus wheel.
Chevalier was a well-known Paris optical house (family of opticians active from the 18th century into the early 20th). These compact Galilean opera glasses were made for the theater and opera — low magnification, short range, and small enough to carry.
