COMPLETE RESTORATION of ORIGINAL LIGHT
This is a beautiful and very popular fixture from the late Art Deco era. The fixture was produced by the very well-known M.E.P. or Markel Electric Products company of Buffalo, NY. They were a premier manufacturer of high-quality fixtures from 1888-1966 and owned by Joseph Markel.When you look at an original fixture like this, you have to think about the fact that it has been around for close to 100 years! Definitely showing its age, it was a little worse for the wear; but like most things of old, the quality construction meant a restoration was totally worth undertaking for a piece that\'s now ready to last another 100 years.
Totally hand-painted, this is truly a One-of-a-Kind fixture!
When purchased, this awesome fixture had been severely neglected, painted solid black and coated with a greasy residue.The next step was applying a base coat of warm gold paint. Then, all the lovely botanical casting elements were all hand-painted.This multicolor treatment is called \"polychroming\" and is consistent with a large portion of lights produced during this early period. Lastly it was coated with clear polyurethane to seal and protect the finish.A new reproduction porcelain socket, wiring and a modern mounting bracket were all added. The purchase of this stunning light fixture will no doubt provide you years of enjoyment in your home. We photograph our lights with a couple of period appropriate light bulb options available in stores and online. These Bulbs ARE NOT Included in the sale.
