Up for sale is a vintage Collins Legitimus \"Connecticut\" pattern felling axe, widely known among collectors as a \"Connie.\" This is a premium grade piece of American tool history from the legendary Collins Company of Collinsville, Connecticut. Head & Stamp Details:
- Stamp: Features the classic, deep, and fully legible rectangular boxed \"COLLINS LEGITIMUS\" logo alongside the iconic arm and hammer crown graphic. The stamp is incredibly crisp with minimal wear.
- Weight: Factory-marked 3-1/2 lbs on poll. Total weight is approximately 4.5 lbs
- Profile & Bit: Exceptional, full profile. The toe and heel retain their classic flared Connecticut shape and have not been ground away by aggressive sharpening over the decades.
- The Poll: Excellent condition with sharp, square corners and minimal mushrooming or dings. Handle & Condition:
- Hung tightly on an older, beautifully aged wood handle (approx. 30.5 inches total length).
