Vintage / Antique-Style Deputy U.S. Marshal Pierced Star Badge – Unidentified “T” Mark
Offered here is an interesting early-style Deputy U.S. Marshal shield badge featuring a pierced five-point star with “U.S.” at the centre, individually struck-style “DEPUTY” and “MARSHAL” lettering, and small star devices on either side.
The badge has substantial age-related patina and wear, particularly to the reverse, along with an old-style vertical pin attachment.
Of particular interest is an unidentified impressed mark on the reverse consisting of a capital “T” within an outlined cartouche/shield-shaped mark. We have not been able to positively identify the maker associated with this mark.
Details:
* Deputy U.S. Marshal shield badge
* Pierced/cut-out five-point star
* “U.S.” at centre
* Small punched stars flanking centre
* Approx. 2 1/16” high × 1 3/4” wide
* Weight: 26 grams
* Vertical pin and catch on reverse
* Unidentified “T” reverse mark
* Silver-coloured metal with substantial natural-looking patina/wear
* Exact metal composition unknown
The dimensions are noteworthy because similar early Deputy U.S. Marshal pierced-star shield badges are known in institutional and collector collections. However, this particular badge has not been professionally authenticated or dated, and reproductions of historic U.S. Marshal badge designs are known to exist.
It is therefore being sold exactly as photographed and without representation or guarantee as to age, maker, metal content, or official U.S. Marshal issuance.
Please examine all high-resolution photographs carefully, particularly the reverse construction, pin assembly, surface, lettering and “T” mark, as the photographs form an important part of the description.
An intriguing piece for the Old West, U.S. Marshal, law-enforcement badge or American historical memorabilia collector.
