RARE VINTAGE E.C. BIRT HODAKA 125 COMBAT WOMBAT AFTERMARKET RACING CYLINDER HEAD

Up for sale is an rare, vintage E.C. Birt aftermarket racing cylinder head manufactured during the 1970s for the Hodaka 125 Combat Wombat.

This is an exceptionally hard-to-find piece of vintage Hodaka racing history. E.C. Birt produced aftermarket performance components during the early days of off-road motorcycle racing, and original examples of these cylinder heads are seldom encountered today.

This would make an excellent addition to a period-correct Hodaka racing restoration, vintage motocross project, or collection of rare aftermarket motorcycle performance parts.

HISTORY OF E.C. BIRT AND PERIOD ADVERTISEMENT

E.C. Birt was involved in the development of aftermarket performance components for vintage off-road motorcycles, including cylinder heads, cylinders, expansion chambers, silencers, and engine performance modifications.

He is also reported to have worked with PABCO's research and development department on motorcycle performance components during this period.

Included in the listing photographs is an actual vintage magazine advertisement for E.C. Birt's performance products, distributed through Precision Cycle of Lawndale, California.

The advertisement specifically offers E.C. Birt radial cylinder heads for 100cc, 125cc, and 175cc motorcycles, including Hodaka applications, with an advertised price of $58.90.

The advertisement also features alloy cylinder kits, expansion chambers, silencers, and porting services.

This original period advertising provides historical documentation of E.C. Birt's aftermarket performance products and helps illustrate the era in which this cylinder head was produced.

OWNERSHIP HISTORY AND RARITY

I have personally owned this cylinder head for over 20 years. I originally acquired it for a vintage motorcycle project that I have come to realize I will never get around to completing. Rather than continue to let it sit on the shelf, I have decided to offer it for sale to someone who can put it to good use or add it to their collection.

I do not know how many of these E.C. Birt cylinder heads were originally manufactured or how many still exist today.

In all the years I have been involved with vintage motorcycles and parts, I cannot recall ever seeing another example of this particular cylinder head. I am sure there are others out there, but I personally have not encountered one.

CONDITION

This is an original vintage used cylinder head being sold in the condition shown in the photographs.

• No broken cooling fins.

• No obvious damage visible inside the combustion chamber.

• Original vintage appearance with age-related wear and cosmetic imperfections.

• Combustion chamber's raised outer ridge measures approximately 2¼ inches across, as shown in the photographs.

• Please examine all photographs closely for additional measurements and overall condition.

The cylinder head has not been installed or tested by me. Combustion chamber volume, compression ratio, sealing surfaces, and internal condition have not been independently verified.

The Super Combat application has NOT been confirmed. Although this head may fit the Super Combat, the buyer is responsible for verifying compatibility, including mounting-hole spacing, cylinder dimensions, and combustion chamber specifications.

This is a vintage aftermarket racing component, and fitment should not be assumed based solely on engine displacement.
