Vintage IBM Desktop Computer – Machine Type 6862, Model D1U
Vintage IBM desktop computer from the late 1990s. Selling AS IS / FOR PARTS OR REPAIR due to inconsistent operation and possible hard drive or other internal issues.
Testing performed:
* Computer powers on and displays video.
* BIOS/IBM startup screen works.
* BIOS recognizes 256 MB RAM.
* Windows 2000 Professional is installed on the hard drive.
* During testing, the computer successfully reached the Windows 2000 startup screen and continued loading.
* On one startup, Windows progressed further but eventually froze.
* On a later restart, the computer displayed: “A disk read error occurred – Press Ctrl+Alt+Del to restart.”
* Internal mechanical/grinding/scraping noises can sometimes be heard during startup. The exact source was not diagnosed.
* BIOS previously displayed a 161 Bad CMOS Battery warning.
* Date/time was manually adjusted during testing.
* CD-ROM tray opens and closes.
* Floppy drive mechanism responds/ejects normally.
* Keyboard and mouse inputs worked during testing.
Internal components observed:
* IBM system/motherboard
* 256 MB RAM shown by BIOS
* Multiple installed RAM modules
* AC Bel power supply, IBM P/N 36L8840, FRU 36L8841, 150W Max
* CD-ROM drive present
* Hard drive present and contains Windows 2000 Professional
The computer has not been fully diagnosed or repaired. Because of its age, intermittent boot behavior, disk read error, CMOS battery warning, and unusual internal noises, no guarantee is made regarding the hard drive, operating system, drives, or any other internal component.
Cosmetic condition shows normal age, wear, marks, dust, and discoloration. Please review all photos carefully for the exact condition and installed components.
