Vintage Japanese Brass Shishi Lion Incense Burner / Koro Censer

Beautiful vintage Japanese brass incense burner featuring a sculptural shishi guardian lion finial, removable domed lid, pierced smoke vents, textured metalwork, beaded borders, and a repeating geometric key-fret / meander pattern around the body.

The underside is clearly stamped JAPAN, confirming Japanese origin.

This small lidded censer is designed for cone incense. Place a cone inside the lower chamber, light it, and replace the lid; smoke can escape through the pierced openings in the body and lion finial.

The compact size makes it especially appealing for display as well as use. It works beautifully in bohemian, eclectic, maximalist, global-inspired, Japanese, Asian-inspired, zen, meditation, spiritual, vintage brass, and collected interiors.

CONDITION:

Vintage pre-owned condition with age-appropriate surface wear, patina, discoloration, small marks, scratches, and signs of previous use. Interior shows expected incense-related darkening/residue. The aged surface and patina are part of the character of the piece. Lid fits as shown.
