Josh Simpson has been creating spectacular artistic glass for more than 50 years. His works have been displayed in numerous museums, highlighted in a PBS documentary on his work, and distributed through some of the most renowned galleries across the globe.
Perhaps no theme pursued by Simpson is more iconic than his New Mexico glass. After seeing Cherenkov radiation, with its production of pure blue light, combined with Simpson’s imagining of the New Mexico summer sky, Simpson created bowls and platters and vases that appear, at one viewing, like the ocean during a storm, at another, like a photo from the Hubble Telescope, and at another, when exposed to bright light, the transformation of the brilliant blue to a dark red or purple, distinctive of dichroic glass.
This large vintage New Mexico Bowl is 11.25” in diameter and sits 5.75” high and has the iconic red lip wrap surrounding a gorgeous field of pure blue. Signed (etched) by the artist and serialized with “11.34” and “1995” indicating a creation date in November of 1995.
