Vintage Fine Karl Drerup Enamel on Copper Footed Dish – King Horse Crocodile – 5 7/8\"
Beautiful vintage enamel-on-copper footed dish by Karl Drerup (1904–2000), King on a horse stampeding a crocodile with Drerup’s distinctive textured surface and expressive linework.
The reverse is finished in a purple enamel with exposed copper visible along the rim and foot ring. The underside appears to be signed as shown in the photos.
Measures approximately 5 7/8\" in diameter.
Condition: Good vintage condition overall. Light age-appropriate surface wear, minor rim wear/oxidation to exposed copper, and natural enamel texture/pitting from the firing process. Some minor blemishes on back side which is displayed in the photos. Wonderful rare piece. Please review all photos carefully, as they are part of the description.
Artist Bio:Karl Drerup was a German-born American artist and enamelist recognized as an important figure in 20th-century studio enamel. Trained as a painter in Europe, he later settled in the United States and became known for his colorful, painterly enamel works on copper, often featuring animals, figures, birds, and folklore-inspired imagery. He also taught in New Hampshire and helped elevate enamel from craft into a respected fine-art medium.
