After a two-year hiatus following the death of Robert Plant’s son and struggles within the band, they made a thunderous return with “In Through the Out Door,” released in August 1979. The album showed a new side of Zeppelin—more keyboard-driven, experimental, and introspective, yet still filled with signature swagger. The band capped off the year with two legendary performances at Knebworth Festival, their first UK shows in four years. It was a triumphant but bittersweet moment—John Bonham’s final year before his tragic passing in 1980.
