Here's a great piece of old-school American wire manufacturing! This vintage roll of Gavitt Wire & Cable Co. stranded wire remains on its original yellow-and-blue metal reel marked GAVITT WIRE & CABLE CO. – BROOKFIELD MASS.
The wire appears to be vintage stranded tinned-copper wire with older-style insulation. The conductor has the characteristic silver-colored appearance associated with tinned copper. Gavitt has a long history of manufacturing specialty wire in Massachusetts, including wire for electrical and electronic applications.
Total weight of spool and remaining wire is approximately 5 lb. 1.8 oz. There is a substantial amount of wire remaining. Exact footage and wire gauge are unknown and have not been measured, so please judge quantity and condition from the photographs.
This could be a fantastic find for a vintage electronics, tube radio, amplifier, guitar, automotive or electrical restoration project, or simply an excellent display piece for a collector of vintage American industrial equipment. The original brightly marked Gavitt metal reel is a great piece in its own right.
