A striking vintage hand-woven Navajo rug in the bold \"eye dazzler\" tradition.
DESIGN: A saturated Ganado-red field holds a large serrated double-diamond medallion in natural ivory, grey and brown wool. Every edge is outlined in dark brown, which gives the vibrating, lightning-edged look these weavings are named for. A nested pair of small serrated diamonds anchors the center, serrated half-diamonds frame both sides, and banded red, grey and ivory stripes finish each end.
CONSTRUCTION: Hand-woven on a traditional upright loom. The weft is tightly packed, with finished ends and no cut fringe, consistent with traditional Navajo continuous-warp weaving. The natural undyed wool tones contrast with the deep red ground.
SIZE: approx. 22.5\" wide x 48\" long
CONDITION: Good vintage condition with honest age, priced accordingly.- Strong, rich color with no significant fading- Weave is tight and sound, with no holes- Some loose yarns and light fraying along the edges, typical of age- Edges have a slight natural wave from hand weaving
A fantastic size for a wall hanging, a scatter rug or a collection piece. Ships free, rolled (never folded) and fully insured.
