This is a vintage ~ 1970\'s novelty Lucite toilet seat with embedded $US coins, each dating from 1973 or earlier. Some of the coins are over 100 years old!
In all, there are approximately 51 pennies, 22 nickels, 15 dimes, 9 quarters, 12 half dollars and 1 Silver dollar imbedded in the seat and lid.
Some of the coin details are:
One 1899 Morgan silver dollar in the center of the lid.
4 one cent coins from 1902, 1905 & 1907.
1902 & 1903 \"V\" cents coins.
Approximately 51 Lincoln pennies from 1973
About 8 Kennedy half dollars from 1972 & 1973
Franklin half dollars from 1962 & 1963
Walking Liberty half dollars from 1942 & 1947
1965, 1966, 1967 & 1972 quarters
1936 & 1929 Buffalo/Indian Head nickel plus one with the year worn off.
1943 and 1945 \"P\" nickels + other misc. nickels.
The lucite has light scratches consistent with age and use (see photos).
The original chrome hardware has some rust and corrosion consistent with use and age and the screws in the lucite are rusted and may or may not come out (see photos)
The larger screws, for mounting the seat to the toilet itself are standard @ 5 3/4 inches apart.
This toilet seat may have been made to celebrate the US Bicentennial in 1976 and it was quite the novelty in its day.
It was purchased from the original owner in 2007 (along with the condo to which it was attached).
