This beautifully crafted seated gentleman features intricate raised moriage enamel decoration, vibrant hand-painted colors, and traditional Japanese symbols representing good fortune (福 – Fuku) and longevity (寿 – Kotobuki/Shou).
Designed as a functional koro, the hollow interior allows a cone of incense to be placed inside through the rear opening, with smoke venting naturally through the censer held in the figure's hands. Whether displayed as Asian décor or used as intended, this is a wonderful example of mid-century Japanese export porcelain.
