This vintage Vernon Kilns “Dayrae” bowl is a scarce No. 3 design created by Jane F. Bennison and produced in California between 1931 and 1937. Vernon Kilns was one of the pioneering California potteries of the early 20th century, founded in Vernon, California in 1931 and quickly recognized for its bold colors and innovative glazes.
The Dayrae line was one of Bennison’s most celebrated modernist shapes, reflecting the streamlined Art Deco aesthetic of the early 1930s. Each piece was individually glazed, resulting in subtle variations of color and sheen. The vibrant turquoise finish on this bowl is classic Vernon Kilns and remains a collector favorite.
This example measures approximately 13 inches in diameter (see tape measure photo) and features a wide flared rim and deep rounded center. The underside carries the appropriate Vernon Kilns mark used during the 1930s production period.
Condition is excellent for its age with only minor wear typical of nearly ninety years of careful handling. A small chip on the rim is shown in last picture. A superb addition for collectors of California pottery, Art Deco design, or Vernon Kilns history.
