Original Drawing on Paper
13.5" x 11" framed
- Overview:This is a beautiful original antique drawing on paper by listed Dutch artist Willem Frederik Alfons Pothast (1877-1917). Executed in 1898, the drawing depicts a traditional Dutch windmill rendered with confident, expressive linework that beautifully captures the charm of the Netherlands' rural landscape.
Pothast was a Dutch painter, illustrator, graphic designer, etcher, and lithographer who studied at the Rijksnormaalschool in Amsterdam and the Royal Academy of Art in The Hague. Best known for his illustrations and graphic works, his original drawings are becoming increasingly difficult to find on the market.
This charming work is signed in the lower left, dated 1898 in the lower right, and retains its antique frame, making it a wonderful addition to any collection of Dutch art, antique drawings, or European works on paper.
- Condition:Drawing in good antique condition. The sheet appears to have been mounted to the backing at some point. The antique frame has age-related wear including scattered scratches and small areas of chipping consistent with its age.
- Certification:Our gallery Certificate of Authenticity is included for items that sell for over $500. For all other items, our Certificate of Authenticity is available for purchase.
- Measurements: Drawing is approx 5.5"x4.5" and approx 13.5"x11" framed
