Condition: Pre owned vintage WWII era Disston U.S. 1944 military machete in good condition with age related patina, oxidation and handling wearOriginal period Disston U.S. 1944 military machete corresponding to the U.S. M1942 18 inch machete pattern used during World War II.This substantial military utility machete features a long single edged steel blade with the manufacturer and date marking DISSTON U.S. 1944 stamped near the handle. The M1942 pattern was developed as an 18 inch military machete for clearing vegetation and general field use and became closely associated with American military operations during World War II.The blade retains a dark aged surface with extensive natural patina, oxidation, discoloration and marks from use and storage. Wartime M1942 machetes were manufactured with a dark utilitarian blade finish rather than a highly polished surface, making surviving examples recognizable by their rugged military appearance. The blade appears full length with no major breaks observed.The molded greenish synthetic handle is secured to the full tang with three large metal rivets and includes a lanyard hole near the butt. The handle shows scratches, scuffs and age related wear but remains intact in the photographs. The rivets and exposed hardware show oxidation consistent with the age of the piece.
