Holland was born on May 22, 1907, in Los Angeles County, California, and served during World War II as commander of the 650th Engineer Topographic Battalion. Operating in the Southwest Pacific, including New Guinea, the battalion performed the highly specialized work of surveying, compiling, reproducing, and distributing military maps required by American forces.Units such as the 650th played an essential role in preparing detailed operational and invasion mapping used in support of Allied campaigns across the Pacific.Holland died on November 21, 1995, in Los Angeles County, California, at the age of 88.
