Function of Engine Motor & Trans Mounts
Motor and transmission mounts are an integral part of your vehicle, as they are engineered to help prevent engine Noise, Vibration and Harshness (NVH) from being transmitted the the rest of the vehicle. This results in a smoother and quieter ride.
Motor mounts support the weight of the engine and transaxle (or transmission), and also isolate engine vibration from the rest of the chassis. An engine is a source of vibration, as it has many moving and rotating parts. Engine mounts hold your engine and transmission in place. The mounts absorb the shocks of the road and the vibration of the engine and transmission, and keep these two elements securely in place. The job of an engine mount is not only to hold the engine in place, but to reduce the engine vibration felt inside the car.
If an engine mount fails, the following symptoms may occur:
- Increase in engine noise
- Increase in vibration felt inside the car
- Steering wheel or cabin vibrations worsen when stopped
- Thump or clunk when you press the gas pedal
