Lovely antique painting, framed oil on canvas. Titled ‘Wood Boy’ the original is by Thomas Barker (1769-1847) of Bath, England. Barker is a highly regarded artist. Well known UK publishers were offering prints of this piece by the end of the 18th century. Mine appears unsigned although I’ve not taken it out of its frame. It came out of a very strong, old, Boston area art collection. Dimensions of the frame are roughly 21”x19”. The surface of the painting shows wear and one chip in the paint towards top right of canvas. The colors are nice and overall the painting has an amazing presence. The back of the canvas has been painted over in black. The old frame shows some wear but fits the piece very well. Overall it has a pleasing primitive look. A great historic picture of a boy gather fire wood in period garb. What country boy hasn’t gathered fire wood at one point or another? Very relatable and charming subject matter. Ships ASAP! Thanks
