Very Early ORIGINAL Antique Colonial Tin Candle Mold, 6 TUBE SIZE FOR 6 CANDLES, c.1780, Hand Made by Early Tinsmith

THIS HAS 6 \"TUBES\" ARRANGED IN A PATTERN as shown, TO MAKE 6 CANDLES AT A TIME.
Tin candle molds were quite an improvement and time saver over hand-dipping candles on early farms, but were rather expensive in colonial money and not too common.This was hand made by an early tin smith. The tubes are soldered together at the bottom, holding the tubes together, then angled upwards towards the top, the style most typical as early as 1750.
It stands roughly 10\" tall and is roughly 2 1/2\" square. The top was made to hold the tubes in place and also has a little \"dam\" around the edge so that molten wax would not overflow. The 6-tube style like this were a good compromise at the time to minimize cost and still enable a reasonable number per \"pour\". And today, it provides a particularly nice look to it! In very good, original condition.
Each tube is about 7/8\" diameter. IT IS FULLY COMPLETE, EXCEPT THE HANDLE IS MISSING, AS OFTEN IS THE CASE. I believe the handles got in the way, and were often removed. Someone has added a cord loop to this one to enable hanging on the wall as a decorative item.
THIS CANDLE MOLD HAS LOTS OF COLONIAL EYE APPEAL. It would look great as a period decoration on a kitchen or living room shelf or table on the wall or in a variety of other places.
THIS WAS HANDMADE OUT OF PIECES OF TIN SHEETS, PUT TOGETHER BY AN EARLY NEW ENGLAND TINSMITH.
