DESCRIPTION
A complete set in three volume in the original publisher\'s binding.
The scarce first edition of 1837 of scientist William Whewell\'s attempt to systemise and map the development of sciences through times. This was his most well-known work, and was later published in two volumes.
An important work exploring science from the early Greek philosophy to the comprehensive systems, and demonstrated generalisations which compose sciences such as Mechanics, Astronomy, and Chemistry.
CONDITION
In the original publisher\'s quarter cloth binding with paper covered boards. Externally sound with some shelf wear and a slight edge wear; the cloth to the spine has slightly faded. With a minor tear to the cloth to the head of the spine of volume one, as well as a damp marking to the rear board of volume one. A minor loss to the title label of volume two. A small inscription by a previous owner to the title page of each volume. The hinges to the front board of volume one are slightly loose, otherwise the volumes are firmly bound. The pages are generally very bright and clean throughout with only a minor faint scattered spotting to the occasional leaf.
