Antique 1891 Norwegian Bible – “Bibelen eller Den hellige Skrift” – Leather Bound
Original late-19th-century Norwegian Bible published in Christiania (present-day Oslo) by Det Norske Bibelselskabs Forlag in 1891.
Title page identifies this copy as “Andet Oplag” (Second Edition/Printing) and states that it contains the canonical books of the Old and New Testaments together with the Old Testament Apocrypha.
This is a substantial antique edition in its original full leather binding with raised spine bands, gilt detailing and leather closure straps. Includes illustrated material and maps, including the colored biblical map shown in the photographs.
CONDITION: Approximately 135 years old and in heavily worn antique condition. The leather binding has extensive rubbing, surface loss, discoloration, scratches, edge/corner wear and general deterioration. Leather closure straps are dry, worn and damaged. There is age toning, foxing/spotting and staining to the pages, particularly the endpapers.
Interior pages shown remain quite readable and the illustrated map retains good detail and color for its age.
I have not attempted to clean, condition, repair or restore the leather or pages.
Please examine all photographs carefully. Due to the age of the book, the photographs should be considered an important part of the condition description.
