Antique 1880s VICTORIAN BLACK VELVET BASQUE BODICE BUSTLE BACK JACKET VGC For Sale

This is nearly identical to a piece in the Metropolitan Museum’s collection (The Costume Institute, Object # C.I.X.5512). This one has a flatter bustle, not gathered. Potentially wearable condition. Original condition - no repairs or alternations have been made. Measurement under the arm is 35”; waist is 26” at the smallest point. Collar to bottom is 24” not including the bustle. All seams are intact. All fabric covered buttons are there with a few showing some wear and slippage of the covering. There is rubbing wear at the top of the collar, cuffs and along the very bottom of the jacket. Both sleeve cuffs have been opened up - just raw seams. The boning is all intact with hooks and loops interior waist stays intact. I don’t see any tears or worn spots to the velvet other than noted. Some minor crushing to the velvet in a few areas that are discolored. It will ship flat to protect the stays from bending. Would make a great display piece or use as a pattern/guide to recreate in a larger size. Please see all photos.
