Up for sale is a gorgeous antique porcelain demitasse or miniature coffee cup crafted by the renowned German manufacturer Beyer and Bock in Rudolstadt-Volkstedt, Thuringia.
The cup belonged to my grandparents and was always displayed as decoration on a low bookcase in the foyer.
This highly collectible cup features a vibrant pink ground accented by rich gold laurel leaf gilding on the sides and an elegant, gilded ring-loop handle. The front displays a beautiful, hand-painted central reserve depicting a multi-colored floral bouquet with pink roses and blue blossoms.
Markings and Authenticity:
The bottom bears the authentic underglaze blue Beyer and Bock factory backstamp: a 5-pointed crown over a stylized, interlocking B script. This mark dates the production of the piece between roughly 1905 and 1931. It also features the hand-painted gold numbering script 22/171 R, indicating the decorator's specific pattern and batch sequence.
Condition:
Excellent antique condition. There are no chips, cracks, structural ‘flea bites’, or repairs. The hand-painted porcelain retains its beautiful translucency and color depth, which is remarkable for 100 plus year old fine china.
Approximate Measurements:
2.5” tall and 3” wide at the top (2” wide at the base).
