Antique Early Republic Ottoman Turkish Quran Holy Book Illuminated Old Istanbul Print Lithography
Qur\'an (Mushaf) in the Arabic language, produced in the Ottoman Turkish printing tradition. The text is set in Naskh-style calligraphic type across the standard 15-lines-per-page Ottoman Mushaf format, with traditional circular verse-end (ayah) markers. The volume opens with a richly illuminated double-page frontispiece (tezhip-style decoration in red, blue, and gilt floral/geometric borders), and includes a separate illuminated title medallion inscribed with Qur\'an 56:77–79 (\"Indeed, it is a noble Qur\'an... None touch it except the purified\"). Decorative cartouche-style surah heading panels mark the beginning of each new chapter throughout the text block.
Toward the rear of the volume, the Mushaf includes a printed reference table of Arabic-Indic numerals, consistent with a Juz\'/Hizb (thirtieth-part) index commonly appended to Ottoman-printed Qur\'ans to assist readers in tracking sequential or ritual (e.g., Ramadan) reading schedules. Adjacent to this table is a printer\'s colophon giving details of the edition, alongside a circular stamp bearing a crescent moon and star, a motif closely associated with Ottoman and early Turkish official and commercial seals. The colophon appears to reference the name \"al-Hafiz Osman\" (Hafız Osman) — almost certainly an allusion to the celebrated 17th-century Ottoman calligrapher Hafız Osman Efendi (d. 1698), whose Qur\'anic script became the standard model for the vast majority of printed Ottoman Mushafs from the 19th century onward.
This is a devotional and liturgical text rather than an archival or government document — its collector interest lies primarily in its traditional Ottoman typographic and illumination craftsmanship, its completion/index table apparatus, and its printer\'s colophon referencing the Hafız Osman calligraphic tradition, all of which are of interest to collectors of Ottoman printing history, Islamic book arts, and religious/liturgical antiques.
