Authentic Pre-Columbian Veracruz Remojadas Ceramic Head Fragment - Antique David Bendann Framed Provenance**Description:**An exceptional, legally acquired, and authentic Pre-Columbian terracotta ceramic head fragment originating from the Classic Veracruz / Remojadas culture of ancient Mexico (dating circa 600–900 CE). This piece depicts a famous "Carita Sonriente" (Smiling Face) figure, highly celebrated in Mesoamerican art for its expressive, joyous demeanor. In ancient Veracruz culture, these smiling countenances are widely believed by historians to represent participants in sacred rituals dedicated to music, dance, and festive deities.**Headdress & Iconography Details:**The head is adorned with a prominent, wide ceremonial headdress featuring detailed relief carvings. The stylized geometric bands and intertwined scrollwork motifs traditionally symbolize sacred speech, cosmic elements, or stylized animal totems associated with the Gulf Coast region. **Vetted Provenance & 120-Year Framing History:**The exceptional value-add for this antiquity is its unbroken modern provenance. The artifact is professionally shadowbox-mounted on a black fabric backdrop inside its original rustic frame. The reverse bears a beautifully intact, turn-of-the-century Art Nouveau gallery label from the historic "David Bendann's Fine Art Rooms" located at 105 East Baltimore St., Baltimore, MD (engraved by the American Bank Note Co.). This specific label variant places the framing of this artifact between 1895 and 1910, proving it has been preserved in a private North American collection for over 120 years. Around 1,100-1,400 years old. **Dimensions:*** **Frame Size:** 11 x 11 inches* **Artifact Size:** Approx. 4.5 x 5.5 inches (fills the center display beautifully)**Condition:**The terracotta fragment is in excellent ancient condition. As seen in the close-up photography, it displays beautiful, authentic earthen mineral encrustations, surface degradation, and pitting consistent with centurial burial. The reverse backing paper has age-appropriate tearing around the edges, but the historical gallery label remains entirely clear and fully intact.
