Description: Thirty captioned plates bound accordion-style in marbled paper boards and housed in a matching period slipcase. No title page or other publication information, but very likely 1840s, based on other books made in the same style and including some of the same plates. Each plate measures 4\" x 2.75\" (10.5 x 7.5 cm). Very slight foxing, some glue staining coming through from the back where 3 pairs of plates are joined, else very clean. Binding and slipcase rubbed at the edges; very good. The plates, which show a mix of male and female costumes and \"types\" from the Lazio region (which includes Rome) are: Pellegrino, Trasteverina di Roma, Eminente Romano, Donna di Palombara, Eremita, Donna di Subbiaco, Giuncataro, Donna di Nettuno, Carrettiere da Vino, Sora di Compagna, Donna di Frascati, Rocca Canterano, Frattarolo, Donna di Tivoli, Rocca di Papa, Donna di Cervara, Donna di Sezze, Uomo di Castelnuovo, Donna di Sonnino, Vignarola, Donna di Palestrina, Donna di Civitella, Ciociaro, Ciociara, Donna di Albano, Pescatore, Sonninese, Pifferari, Pastore, and Mosciarellaro.

Condition Descriptions Defined: We grade our books and dust jackets using the traditional language of the antiquarian book trade. In brief: Fine is the highest grade and means essentially as new, without visible faults or defects; Near Fine means approaching fine, but with one or more very minor defects or faults, which will be noted; Very Good means the book shows some general (but not too offensive) signs of wear and use, which will be noted; Good means the book is complete and intact, but has more wear or some internal markings. Any ex-library book will be graded no higher than Good, even if it is otherwise a very nice copy. Again, all flaws will be noted. We rarely offer any books in Fair or Poor condition, but if we do, the reasons for the grade will be evident from the photo(s) and description.
