From Japan\'s late Meiji period, 1880-1912, a dramatic cast bronze hibachi (brazier) vessel with a pair of soaring, high-relief mythical Hō-ō (phoenixes). The phoenixes wrap around the exterior, their wingtips flaring into sculptural handles.
The ground is a chocolate with russet overtones, while the applied elements and rim have a more golden color.
The bottom is open. Originally these had metal liners; today, they\'re used as cachepots / jardinieres, table centerpieces or standalone sculptures.The bowl is9.25\" wide and 5.25\" tall, weighing 4 lbs 10 oz.
In excellent antique condition, with no cracks, breaks, or structural repairs observed.
