Manuel Olivas Signed Geometric Polychrome Olla Clay Pot For Sale

Offered here is a large signed pottery olla attributed to Manuel Olivas (1940–2007), associated with the early development of Mata Ortiz pottery and the revival of ancient Casas Grandes/Paquimé ceramic traditions in Chihuahua, Mexico.
This substantial vessel measures approximately 9 inches tall × 10 inches at its widest point.
The olla features a buff/tan earthenware body decorated with striking red and black polychrome geometric designs. The decoration incorporates stepped, triangular, linear and sweeping curvilinear motifs inspired by the pottery traditions of ancient Paquimé/Casas Grandes.
The underside bears an incised handwritten signature that appears to read “Manuel Olivas.” Please examine the included close-up photograph of the signature and make your own determination regarding the inscription and attribution.
The vessel has an attractive rounded form with a slightly flared rim and displays very well. The interior is unglazed, as is characteristic of this type of pottery.
