Ming-Qing Period Tibetan Silver-Accented Gilt Bronze Seated Buddha Statue 2.7kg:
$7700.00

  • Cast from an alloy of gold, silver, and copper, this statue depicts Amitabha Buddha with a plump countenance, star-and-moon-like eyebrows, and downcast eyes, exuding a serene and tranquil composure. An urna decorates the space between his brows, complementing his prominent nose and full lips; a subtle upturn at the corners of his mouth radiates a peaceful aura. His head is topped with tightly ordered snail-like hair spirals and a prominent ushnisha, and his elongated earlobes harmoniously balance the natural proportions of the sculpture. Draped in a robe that leaves the right shoulder bare, the garment features dense, layered drapery finely incised with ruyi and scrolling grass motifs. The lines are fluid and graceful, displaying meticulous carving characteristic of the Qing dynasty Tibetan-Buddhist style. The robe gathers naturally at the chest, with the folds rising and falling in a rhythmic manner that demonstrates the master artisan\'s profound mastery of textile movement and anatomical structure. The gilding is primarily concentrated on the face, chest, abdomen, and the borders of the robe; despite the passage of time, the gold remains subtly visible, offering an understated and elegant luster. His right hand is raised in the Abhaya mudra (fearlessness gesture), while his left hand holds a bowl in front of his knees as he sits in the full lotus position upon a lotus base with his feet firmly interlocked. The upper rim of the pedestal is adorned with even, plump lotus petals and a beaded band, meticulously incised with distinct layering. Tibetan inscriptions are carved along the base edge, featuring sharp, upright characters with natural tool marks. The piece is in an excellent overall state of preservation, with a heavy and solid body and a natural, quiet metallic oxidation layer that imparts both historical and artistic value.
