Beautiful pair of antique French Empire / Neoclassical white marble and gilt bronze candlesticks, featuring finely detailed ormolu decoration throughout. Each candlestick has a cylindrical white marble column embellished with applied gilt bronze laurel and berry garlands, ornate classical capitals, and urn-form candle cups.
The substantial square marble bases are decorated with pierced ormolu foliate galleries on the sides and raised on four decorative bronze feet. They measure approximately 8½–9” tall, with bases approximately 3¼” square.
These display beautifully but do show age and wear. There are some losses/missing sections of the applied ormolu decoration, including portions of the pierced foliate gallery around the marble bases, as visible in the photos. The marble bases have small chips and nicks along the edges and corners, with the most noticeable loss/chipping to the corner/edge of one base. One base also has a small hole to the side. Additional age-related discoloration, surface wear, tarnish and patina are present throughout.
Please review all photos carefully for the condition, areas of loss, details and exact dimensions.
