- The Scale:While smaller Worcester tea wares are common, an11-inch punch bowlis an exceptional, investment-grade survival. Large bowls were prone to thermal shock from hot punch and handling damage, making large, intact examples rare.
- The Provenance:This piece carries flawless, elite collector pedigree. Having theZorensky collection tag(#42 Hancock Book) automatically elevates this piece above unrecorded equivalents. It is an exact match to the example chosen for inclusion in Spero & Sandon’s master reference textbook (The Zorensky Collection, Fig. 319).
- The Subject Matter:18th-century English sporting and equestrian transfer prints are intensely cross-collected by both porcelain enthusiasts and traditional British sporting art collectors.
🎨 Information About the ArtistsRobert Hancock (1730–1817) – The Master EngraverRobert Hancock was the pioneer of overglaze transfer printing on porcelain. After working at the York House Battersea enamel works, he joined Worcester in 1756. His intricate copperplate engravings revolutionized the industry, allowing fine, fine-art quality graphics to be replicated on ceramics. His lines are celebrated for their micro-fine detail, shadow hatching, and deep tonal clarity—brilliantly showcased on the continuous exterior hunt scene of this bowl.James Seymour (1702–1752) – The Original PainterThe graphics on this bowl were adapted from a 1755 engraving by Thomas Burford, which was based on an original painting ("The Chase") by James Seymour. Seymour was one of the big three "Founding Fathers" of the British Sporting Art school (alongside Peter Tillemans and John Wootton). He was famous for painting racehorses and fox hunts for the British aristocracy, and his distinct primitive, energetic depiction of galloping horses is beautifully preserved in this porcelain transfer.📝 Detailed Item DescriptionTitle:Superb 18th-Century Dr. Wall First Period Worcester Porcelain "The Foxhunt" Punch Bowl
