Roman Republic silver denarius attributed to Marcus Marcius Mn. f., struck at Rome circa 134 BC.
The obverse depicts the head of Roma facing right, wearing a winged helmet. A modius, a grain-measuring vessel, appears behind the head, with a denomination mark below the chin.
The reverse depicts Victory holding a whip and reins while driving a galloping two-horse chariot, or biga, to the right. Two upright grain ears divide the inscriptions below the horses. Portions of the moneyer’s inscription, normally cataloged as M•MAR•C, and ROMA are visible, with some letters combined in ligature. The final C of the moneyer’s inscription is not clearly distinguishable on this example.
